Parent and Child

This Parent and Child class is designed to introduce your child to the water, provide strategies for the adult and child to safely enjoy the water, and prepare the child to enroll in Regular Beginner in the future.  In this class, the parent will be standing in the water with the child and the instructor.  No prior skill in swimming is required for the child or parent.  However, children must be at least 2 years of age to be in this class.  If you need help in deciding if this class is appropriate for your child, please call 731-431-0528 to gain assistance in deciding. 

Parent and Child Class Information

The Carmichael Swim Pool facility has a heated swimming pool to increase the comfort for you and your child.  When participating in this class, your child will be in the pool with one parent, the instructor, and other children with their parent.  The pool is 2 feet in depth in the shallow end, has a stair case entry, and is 5 feet in depth in the deep end.  Thus no swimming skill is required for the parent in order to get into the water. 

This class is NOT designed to provide your child with self-rescue strategies.  Children must always be supervised when in or near water.  At Carmichael Swim School we emphasize water safety and to NEVER SWIM ALONE.   In this class, there is an emphasis on the child being in the prone position while supported and having their face in the water as they learn appropriate breath control.  This position and comfort with breath control is our prerequisite for learning how to swim in the Regular Beginner class.  The goals for this Parent and Child class are to encourage your child to gain comfort in putting their face in the water and blowing bubbles, use breath control to be comfortable entering and exiting the surface of the water and extend the parent's knowledge of techniques that are effective in working with their child.  At minimum, we want the child to enjoy being in and near water.  Again, call 731-431-0528 if you need assistance in deciding which course to select.
