Regular Beginner

This Regular Beginner class is designed to introduce your child to water safety and proper swimming technique.  No prior skill in swimming is required.  However, children must be at least 4 years of age to be in this class AND prior to the first class, students are highly encouraged to already comfortable putting their eyes, mouth, and nose in the water without hesitation.  This can be practiced in the bathtub at home to a count of 3 or 4 seconds.  Goggles are not required, but they are allowed as long as they do NOT cover the nose. If you need help in deciding if this class is appropriate for your child, please call 731-431-0528 to gain assistance in deciding. 

Regular Beginner Information

The Carmichael Swim Pool facility has a heated swimming pool to increase the comfort for your child.  When participating in this class, your child will be in the pool with the instructor and other children.  An emphasis is placed on allowing children to independently practice while safely swimming in shallow water until they are ready to independently swim in deeper water.  A large portion of the classes are conducted in a depth of 3 feet or less (shallow end of the pool) where children can stand and be comfortable if necessary.  The maximum depth of the pool is 5 feet (deep end of the pool) and children are individually assisted at all times when they are in deeper water.  The deep end of the pool is designed with a concrete standing ledge in the water around the perimeter of the pool to allow children to stand up and hold on to the edge of the pool while waiting for individual assistance from the instructor.  The goal of the class by the end of the session is to have children individually and independently swimming a length of 5 yards in the deep end of the pool while being monitored by the instructor.  Additionally, comfort with demonstrating treading of water for a few seconds and swimming on the back with or without support is a desired outcome for students in this class.  Students who make appropriate progress in this class will be recommended to take Good Beginner as their next class.  However, it is not unusual for students to spend more than one season in Regular Beginner before being ready to progress to Good Beginner.  Again, call 731-431-0528 if you need assistance in deciding which course to select.
